On November 17, President Chen Shui-bian met with President and Mrs. Kessai Note of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, expressing his wholehearted welcome and thanks.
President Chen stated that this is President Note's fifth visit of Taiwan and is the third time they met with each other during this year, adding that their frequent interactions suggest a strong bond between their two countries. President Chen also expressed his appreciation to President Note for speaking out for Taiwan's bid to join the United Nations in the UN session this September, and in the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders' meeting as well.
As the Second Taiwan-Pacific Allies Summit will be held in Majuro next year, the capital of the Marshall Islands, President Chen said that he will be most honored to be able to attend the Summit by himself in hopes of promoting greater exchanges in education, culture, and economy between the two countries, as well as bringing about greater welfare for the two peoples.
President Chen suggested that President and Mrs. Note make time to tour around the island so as to appreciate the friendliness of the Taiwanese people and Taiwan's beautiful sceneries.
