On December 11th, President Chen Shui-bian telephoned Gambian President Yahya A. J. J. Jammeh to congratulate him on his re-election.
President Chen informed President Jammeh that he has appointed Premier Su Tseng-Chang as his special envoy to attend the Gambian President's inauguration. He also reminded President Jammeh of the first summit between Taiwan and its African allies scheduled for early next year, and invited President Jammeh to attend the event in person.
In response, President Jammeh expressed his welcome to Premier Su. He also commented on China's intention to host the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation this year as taking advantage of the impoverishment of African countries and conducting money diplomacy. He said, as The Gambia is a nation with dignity that cannot be bribed, it will always stand on the side of justice and truth and continue to lend its staunch support to Taiwan. President Jammeh also invited President Chen to visit The Gambia.
