New Year's Greetings from President & Mrs. Chen and Vice President Lu
2006-12-29

The Department of Public Affairs under the Office of the President announced on December 28 that as Year 2007 is drawing near, President and Mrs. Chen and Vice President Lu have issued electronic greeting cards respectively to wish all the Taiwanese citizens a "blissful, safe, and auspicious" new year.

According to the Department of Public Affairs, the e-card of President and Mrs. Chen has the first overseas mission of Taiwan's Air Force One as its main theme, featuring President Chen taking the plane on September 3, 2006 to pay a state visit to Palau. The card shows the Air Force Once flying above the Jade Mountain, Taiwan's tallest, representing the hope that Taiwan will be able to "fly higher and see farther" in the new year.

Vice President Lu's e-card features a snow-clad Jade Mountain with the setting sun in the background. The imposing, majestic Jade Mountain symbolizes spirit of Taiwan: perseverance and sustainability. In the end, the e-card demonstrates the Vice's President's best wishes to all the people of Taiwan in the coming year.

Visitors are welcome to log on to the homepage of the Office of the President (http://www.president.gov.tw/) to view the e-cards from President and Mrs. Chen as well as from the Vice President, and use the e-cards to greet friends and families to express their best wishes for the New Year.
