President Chen Expresses His Views on the Election Results
2005-12-03

President Chen Shui-bian tonight expressed satisfaction with the successful and peaceful completion of the "three-in-one" elections of county magistrates and city mayors; county and city councilors; and rural and urban township magistrates, and county municipality mayors.

President Chen also expressed gratitude for the efforts of all the workers who conducted the election, police who maintained social order, and prosecutors, investigators, and police who were responsible for handling vote-buying cases. It was only through their efforts and dedication that the "three-in-one" elections were able to proceed smoothly.

President Chen offered his congratulations to all the newly elected county magistrates and city mayors; county and city councilors; and rural and urban township magistrates, and county municipality mayors. To those who were not elected, he praised their efforts and the democratic spirit they demonstrated throughout the course of the elections. President Chen stressed that, now the heated electoral emotions have passed, all candidates, whether elected or not, should join together in devoting themselves to local development, and uniting their efforts for the better welfare of Taiwan's people.
