On January 8, President Chen Shui-bian met with Junior Chamber International (JCI) World President Scott Greenlee and other guests. President Chen expressed his welcome not only on behalf of the government and the 23 million people of Taiwan, but also as member No. 1228 of the Taiwan Junior Chamber. Mr. Greenlee is visiting Taiwan to attend the inauguration of Mr. Hsu Yu-ming as president of the Taiwan Junior Chamber.
President Chen congratulated Mr. Greenlee on his election as world president of the Junior Chamber International at the organization's annual assembly last year in Seoul, South Korea. The president said this is certainly the greatest honor for a member of the JCI family. He said he hopes that Mr. Greenlee is able to successfully achieve his goals of leadership and service in his tenure as world president of the organization, enabling the services of the JCI to penetrate through to every corner of the world.
President Chen said that the Taiwan Junior Chamber makes an enormous contribution on Taiwan and is one of the most highly respected international clubs, whether it be in terms of providing training for its members or offering service to groups and communities. The president said he hopes that under the leadership of the new Taiwan Junior Chamber president, the organization will work to further make a name for itself and bolster Taiwan's future. He said he expects the Taiwan Junior Chamber to be a model chapter of the JCI under Mr. Hsu's leadership.
President Chen also told the guests that he will commence a journey this evening to Nicaragua, a diplomatic ally of the ROC (Taiwan), to attend the inauguration of Nicaraguan President-elect Daniel Ortega. President Chen will make a stopover in San Francisco along the way. The president said it was his pleasure to meet with Mr. Greenlee and the other guests before his departure, adding that he hopes his own journey overseas will go smoothly.
