President Chen Shui-bian on May 14 met with some of foreign guests who are taking part in the 2007 Taipei Summit. The president, on behalf of the government and 23 million people of the ROC (Taiwan), expressed a warm welcome and gratitude to the guests. He also expressed his hopes that in the future companies involved in the WiMAX industry in the United States, Japan and South Korea will employ technology developed on Taiwan, jointly working to develop markets and business opportunities.
In remarks to the visitors, the president said that the Ministry of Economic Affairs sought to hold the 2007 Taipei Summit to promote cooperative relations between governments and the corporate sectors in the Asia-Pacific region. The MOEA asked the Industrial Technology Research Institute to establish a platform for interaction and cooperation. He said the summit has been held successfully two other times. The president said he believes that the visitors can sense the pledges, investment and efforts made by the Taiwan government and the private sector here to foster development of the WiMAX industry, adding that he hopes the opportunity for everyone to meet will further promote cooperation. He also said that close cooperation and strategic alliances will help industry participants to expand their influence in the global market.
Former Minister of Information and Communications of the Republic of Korea, Dr. Daeje Chin, led the delegation of visitors to meet with President Chen. Economics Minister Steve Ruey-Long Chen accompanied the group to the Presidential Building. Also in attendance was Deputy Secretary-General to the President Chen Chi-mai.
