2003-03-25

Taipei, March 25 (CNA) Visiting Burkina Faso Prime Minister Paramango Ernest Yonli reaffirmed his country's support Tuesday for the Republic of China's bid to join the United Nations and other international organizations.

Speaking at a ceremony in which he was decorated by President Chen Shui-bian with the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon in recognition of his contribution to promoting bilateral ties, Yonli said that his administration will do its best to help the ROC.

The ROC's achievements in democratization and the protection of human rights have been recognized internationally, Yonli noted.

It is an international injustice to shut out the ROC from the United Nations and other international organizations, he said, adding that his country is willing to contribute to the ROC's U.N. bid.

He also thanked Chen for the assistance the ROC has extended to his country, which he said has contributed greatly to his country's development and to its fight against poverty and disease.

Yonli also said it is not only a great honor for him to receive the medal, it also represents the deep and close friendship that exists between the ROC and Burkina Faso.

Chen said the ROC government appreciates Yonli's efforts to promote bilateral relations and cooperation since he assumed the Burkina Faso premiership.
