2007-10-14

October 14 was the final day of President Chen Shui-bian's Trip of Harmonious Co-prosperity and Everlasting Friendship, which has taken him to the Marshall Islands for the Second Taiwan-Pacific Allies Summit.

In the morning, President Chen was accompanied by ROC (Taiwan) ambassador to the Marshall Islands, Linghu Bruce J.D., to a dock where President of the Marshall Islands Kessai H. Note was waiting to welcome President Chen on board a boat. The boat then set off on a journey that took the two leaders to the coral reefs near Eneko Island where there was a fishing competition among some of the leaders in the Marshall Islands for the summit. After the contest, the two leaders then went to Eneko Island to take part in the awards ceremony and to join in a barbecue. In the contest, the team of President Chen and President Note caught a 31-pound fish, garnering the top prize. Coming in second was the team comprised of Palau President Tommy Remengesau, Jr. and Nauru President Ludwig Scotty, who caught a 26-pound fish.

After finishing their trip to Eneko Island, President Chen returned to his hotel for a brief rest. He then headed to Majuro International Airport to board his plane back to Taiwan. President Note was at the airport to personally bid farewell to President Chen and his entourage. President Chen, escorted by protocol officers from the Marshall Islands, made his way to the VIP room at the airport to personally shake the hands of the officials on hand, as well as President Note. He then boarded his plane, marking the end of his visit.
