President Chen, Vice President Lu Express Views on Conclusion to Presidential Election

President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu on the evening of March 22 expressed their viewpoints on the smooth holding of and conclusion to the 12th–term presidential and vice presidential election. They said that while the campaigning was quite heated, both tickets displayed a high degree of sportsmanship during the race. The balloting and tallying of votes went smoothly, which displayed the maturity of Taiwan's democratic political system and the democratic spirit of Taiwan's populace. In light of the successful election, President Chen and Vice President Lu have saluted and expressed their appreciation to everyone involved in the election as well as election workers.

President Chen and Vice President Lu have also expressed their congratulations to President-elect Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President-elect Vincent Siew. At the same time, they affirmed the efforts of Mr. Frank Hsieh and Mr. Su Tseng-chang. President Chen reiterated that in the run-up to May 20, the government will make every effort to maintain political stability and will provide every courtesy to ensure the smooth hand-over of power to the 12th–term president and vice president.
