President and Mrs. Chen and Vice President Lu Release Mother's Day E-cards
2008-05-08

This Sunday is Mother's Day. President Chen Shui-bian and First Lady Wu Shu-jen, and Vice President Annette Lu on May 8 specially released electronic cards to wish a Happy Mother's Day to mothers throughout the country. They expressed their hopes that all mothers will remain in the best of health and always maintain their shine.

The Office of the President's Department of Public Affairs said that President Chen and Vice President Lu began issuing electronic cards on special occasions and holidays throughout the year since they took office in 2000. The cards were issued on the website of the Office of the President even before the widespread use of the Internet. This year is the final time that President Chen and Vice President Lu will be in office during Mother's Day, thereby marking the last time that they will be able to express their good wishes and gratitude to the mothers of Taiwan in this manner.

The Department of Public Affairs said that President Chen's mother was previously hospitalized, but has recovered and has returned home. The president is relieved, and he hopes that each mother on Taiwan will take special care of her health. In addition, children should regularly show a little extra concern for their mothers, helping them to take care of themselves and enabling their mothers to be happy every day.

The Department of Public Affairs said that the wording on the cards, which expresses gratitude to mothers, is meant to be read in Taiwanese. The design of the cards conforms with tradition in focusing on how we remember interacting with our mothers when we were young. The touching background music expresses President and Mrs. Chen's and Vice President Lu's warm wishes.

The Department of Public Affairs furthermore said that the cards can be easily viewed by going to the front page of the Office of the President's website (http://www.president.gov.tw/) and clicking them.
