"A-bian Portrait": President Chen's Fifth Televised Talk
2003-03-15

Taipei, March 16 (CNA) President Chen gave the country's police force a slap on the back Saturday in his weekly telecast talks, commending them for the wide range of duties they perform and for always being available when the public needs them.

Chen expressed his respect for Taiwan's police officers for the demanding nature of their job and the long hours they put in to serve the people.

He noted that their work includes sacrifices such as working on holidays and expressed empathy for the fact that their busy jobs often affect their ability to perform their roles as sons, fathers or husbands.

While expressing his apologies to the families of police officers for the sacrifices these officers have had to make in carrying out their duties of meeting so many varying needs among the public, he acknowledged that many police officers may not exactly be satisfied with their jobs because of the wide demands placed on them and expressed his admiration for their efforts.
