President and Mrs. Ma and Vice President and Mrs. Siew Issue E-cards for Father's Day
2008-08-07

The Presidential Office’s Department of Public Affairs announced on August 7 that President and Mrs. Ma and Vice President and Mrs. Siew have issued electronic cards on the Office of the President’s website to wish fathers on Taiwan a Happy Father’s Day. The once a year Father’s Day falls on August 8.

The Department of Public Affairs said that this marks the first electronic cards released by the president and vice president since taking office on May 20. The cards, which are being released on the eve of Father’s Day, are aimed at extending the president’s and vice president’s best regards to fathers around Taiwan. The card issued by President and Mrs. Ma features expressive music in the background and pictures of a father interacting with his children. The card likens a father’s love to the warmth of the sun, adding that the loving kindness of a father is as vast as an ocean. This is something that children will never forget. Fathers always take our hands, put their hands around our shoulders and lead us forward, enabling us to see further into the distance and have a more expansive life.

As Father’s Day approaches this year, President Ma said he particularly thinks about his own dad. Even though his father has passed away, the president said that the impact of his father will always remain etched in his heart. President Ma said he will work even harder in the future to serve the public, hoping to make his father eternally proud of him. The president also encouraged others to also do their best and take advantage of this time to let their fathers know their love and concern for them.

The e-card issued by Vice President and Mrs. Siew revolves around the unshakable love and support that fathers provide to their families, and how a father serves as a pillar of support for the family as well as a teacher to their children. The e-card praises fathers for shielding their family from the elements and embracing their children with love, enabling their children to grow up in a happy environment. With much gratitude and their best wishes, Vice President and Mrs. Siew hope that each father is able to have an enjoyable Father’s Day.

The Department of Public Affairs said that the e-cards from President and Mrs. Ma and Vice President and Mrs. Siew are available for view on the Office of the President’s website at: http://www.president.gov.tw/.  The department urged people to have their fathers go online and look at the cards. And remember, make this year’s Father’s Day a memorable and happy one for your father.
