Press Conference Held at Presidential Building Ahead of Vice President Siew's Visit to the Kingdom of Swaziland

A press conference was held on the morning of August 29 at the Presidential Building to announce that Vice President Vincent C. Siew will lead a delegation on a visit to the Kingdom of Swaziland on September 4. Vice President Siew, who will be accompanied by Mrs. Siew, will serve as a special envoy in making the visit. Presidential Office Spokesman Wang Yu-chi presided over the press conference and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin explained the plans for and itinerary of this trip for Vice President Siew.

The Kingdom of Swaziland on September 6 will celebrate its 40th anniversary of independence as well as the 40th birthday of His Majesty King Mswati III. President Ma Ying-jeou has specially designated Vice President Siew as his special envoy to Swaziland to congratulate that nation on these two important events.

While in Swaziland to participate in the "twin celebrations," Vice President Siew will meet with Queen Mother Ntombi Tfwala and His Majesty King Mswati III. The leaders will discuss issues of mutual concern and exchange opinions on how to strengthen and further develop bilateral cooperative and friendly relations between the two countries. Vice President Siew will also attend state dinners and related celebratory activities in conjunction with the twin celebrations.

During his stay in Swaziland, Vice President Siew will pay a visit to the ROC Embassy in Swaziland. He will also meet with the Taiwan Technical Mission and Medical Mission stationed in that country. In addition, the vice president will meet with Taiwan businessmen and overseas compatriot leaders from South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland at a seminar. He will provide encouragement to the overseas compatriots and seek to better understand their status and investment in southern Africa.

Vice President Siew is scheduled to conclude his trip to Swaziland on the morning of September 7 and return to Taiwan on the afternoon of September 8.
