President Ma Meets National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Dean Kishore Mahbubani

President Ma Ying-jeou met with Kishore Mahbubani, Dean of National University of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, and Mrs. Mahbubani at the Presidential Office on the afternoon of April 15. The president extended a cordial welcome to the couple on their visit to Taiwan.

The president commented that Dean Mahbubani is an outstanding diplomat who started his career in Singapore at the grassroots level and has become highly distinguished in the international political arena. After being appointed to head the school, Mr. Mahbubani was instrumental in recruiting and attracting students from 28 countries to the institution, successfully establishing the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy as a world-class center for the study of public policy.

President Ma commented that he visited Singapore several years ago and at the time had the opportunity to deliver a speech at the invitation of Dean Mahbubani. The president said that he came to understand the many important contributions that the school has made in the process of the educational internationalization of Singapore.

Dean Mahbubani expressed his appreciation to President Ma for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with him. He said that he desires to discuss public policy with Taiwan's academic community and government agencies during his visit here. Dean Mahbubani also said he hopes that Taiwan academics and government employees will consider attending the school to further their education.
