2009-07-05

President Ma Ying-jeou on July 4 Nicaragua time completed his two-day trip to the Republic of Nicaragua, achieving the objectives of solidifying the friendship and alliance between the two nations and strengthening cooperation.

In the morning, President Ma was interviewed at his hotel by correspondents of The Associated Press and Agence France-Presse. The president then toured an international trade fair held at the International Convention Center across the street from his hotel. Twelve companies from Taiwan, along with the ROC technical mission to Nicaragua, had booths at the exhibition.

After returning to his hotel, President Ma and Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega Saavedra met for the third time and exchanged opinions on issues of mutual interest. In the afternoon, President Ortega personally drove President Ma to a banquet held for representatives of the overseas compatriot community in Nicaragua, where President Ma expressed his appreciation for the efforts they have made.

Later in the afternoon, President Ma attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a micro- and small-sized enterprise product exhibition center. After listening to a briefing on the project, the two leaders visited a trade fair at the site and browsed the booths, participating in various activities and interacting with the public. After the conclusion of the ceremony, President Ortega again personally drove President Ma to the airport and escorted President and Mrs. Ma to their aircraft, bidding them farewell as they prepared to depart Nicaragua.
