President Ma Meets Fujitsu Group Chairman and Representative Director Michiyoshi Mazuka
2009-07-17

President Ma noted that Fujitsu is a global IT services supplier providing total solutions, and the group has offices in over 70 countries. The president said that Fujitsu's operations in Taiwan fully reflect the government's policies, which are to support development of the IT industry, but also to emphasize environmental awareness. The solutions provided take environmental issues into consideration. For instance, Fujitsu previously held an activity to clean up the beaches in Tamsui. He said he admires the company for doing its part to protect Taiwan's environment.

The president furthermore noted that Fujitsu has chalked up revenues of NT$21.4 billion in Taiwan, and that its procurements of Taiwan's information and communications products top NT$100 billion. At the same time, the company has responded to the government's call for world-class companies to establish R&D departments in Taiwan. Fujitsu has founded a broadband wireless technologies research and development center here, and has made considerable contributions to Taiwan's industrial and economic development, he said.

President Ma commented that he has put heavy emphasis on the development of broadband wireless technologies. He said that 4,000 access points were set up during his tenure as Taipei mayor, enabling Taipei City to achieve the widest coverage of wireless broadband of any city in the world. The president said he is confident that Fujitsu's R&D work in this field will be closely integrated with Taiwan's related policies for future development in this regard.

President Ma said that since taking office he has given considerable thought as to how to further promote and improve relations between Taiwan and Japan. In reflection of this, this year has been designated "The Year to Foster the Special Partnership between Taiwan and Japan." This initiative includes corporate cooperation, he said, noting that Fujitsu serves as a model for cooperation between the corporate sectors of the two nations.

Mr. Mazuka expressed his appreciation to President Ma for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with him. He also said that Taiwan is a wonderful cooperative partner in business and that Fujitsu hopes to strengthen its cooperative relationship with the government and the IT industry. He particularly noted that Taiwan boasts a highly advanced WiMAX industry. Mr. Mazuka said he looks forward to further cooperation in the future and hopes that the two sides can work together in advancing into the global market.
