President Chen Meets with the Delegates of the Ambassador Club International
2003-02-19

Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian on Wednesday called on the Germany-based Ambassador Club International (IAC) to help Taiwan in its efforts to join non-government organizations worldwide so that Taiwan can make more contributions to the international community.

Chen offered a warm welcome to the IAC, whose focus is humanity and human dignity, in holding its first delegates' meeting of 2003 in Taiwan.

Holding the delegates meeting in Taiwan, which became a full member of the IAC in 1980, underlines the recognition and confirmation of the efforts and contributions that the IAC Taiwan Chapter has made over the past year, Chen noted.

Chen said it is his great hope that the IAC, being one of the most influential NGO bodies in Europe as well as in the world, will relentlessly help Taiwan to become a member of other NGOs or private organizations in the world so as to let Taiwan play a more active role and contribute more in the international community.

The IAC was founded by a group of social elites in Germany in 1970. Without political or religious affiliations, men and women who join the club regard themselves as ambassadors for a society with humanitarian values, striving to further international understanding.

Ambassadors of the club have the courage to express their own opinions and are willing to bear a share of the responsibility for the community. Ambassadors are on friendly terms with each other and support each other in all spheres of life, according to the IAC founding idea.
