Taipei, Feb. 17 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian met Monday with the visiting president of Panama's legislative assembly, Carlos Alvarado.
Chen thanked Alvarado for his role in foiling a proposal at the Latin American Conference 2002 in Brazil to invite Beijing to that gathering as an observer.
He also thanked him for Panama's support for the Republic of China's bids for membership in the United Nations and access to the World Health Organization.
The president asked Alvarado to convey an invitation to Panama President Mireya Elisa Moscoso to visit Taiwan.
