Presidential Office Spokesman Lo Chih-chiang called a press conference on the afternoon of October 12 to announce that Lien Chan will act as President Ma Ying-jeou’s special envoy at this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM).
Spokesman Lo indicated that President Ma has decided to request that Lien Chan, chairman of the National Policy Foundation, attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on his behalf. In explaining his decision, President Ma remarked that Mr. Lien is a highly seasoned veteran with a comprehensive understanding of world affairs, and as such is the ideal choice to represent Taiwan at the meeting.
This year's AELM is scheduled for November 13-14 in Yokohama, Japan, and will focus on the theme of "Change and Action."
