Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, Dec. 24 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian, accompanied by Vice President Annette Lu, on Tuesday visited DuPont USA's titanium dioxide plant located in Kuanyin, Taoyuan.
President Chen lauded the U.S. chemical company's successful business operations which attach equal importance to environmental protection. He said the DuPont success provides Taiwan with an inspiration in its bid to build itself into a "green silicon island."
Pointing out that the key word in the "green silicon island" concept is "green," the president said that development can only be regarded as successful if the environment is protected in the process. "Only if our environment is protected and saved can Taiwan become science and technology's master, rather than its slave," he said.
