President Ma attends National Day reception and ROC Centennial Birthday Party
President Ma Ying-jeou and First Lady Chow Mei-ching on the afternoon of October 10 attended a reception at the Taipei Guest House held to mark the ROC's centenary. President and Mrs. Ma met with local and foreign guests and dignitaries during the event, and also browsed through an area devoted to all sorts of special foods and snacks from around Taiwan. They also admired the various carved fruits and vegetables. A chef even put on a demonstration for the guests on how to make soup dumplings, with the president and the guests enjoying the delightful performance by the renowned drumming troupe Utheatre.
Among the foreign dignitaries present at the reception were Republic of Palau President Johnson Toribiong, Republic of Nauru President Marcus Stephen, Republic of Guatemala President Álvaro Colom Caballeros, Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaoré, and Solomon Islands Prime Minister Danny Philip. The guests jointly congratulated the ROC on its 100th birthday in the festive atmosphere at the event.
In the evening, President and Mrs. Ma attended ROC Centennial Birthday Party at Fulfillment Amphitheatre in Taichung City to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the ROC. President and Mrs. Ma enjoyed a performance of the rock opera Dreamers, the storyline of which discussed the significance and hopes of the ROC on its 100th birthday.
In remarks delivered before the performance, President Ma stated that in the morning everyone was able to see the ROC's impressive military prowess and a variety of dazzling performances by private groups at the Double Tenth parade and celebration in front of the Presidential Building. Tonight, everyone will experience a totally different type of feeling with the rock opera Dreamers, he said, adding that he hopes that everyone will enjoy this wonderful moment.
