Vice President Lu Attends the Fifth Elite Awards of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprise Professional Managers Ceremony
2002-12-18

Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu encouraged small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) Wednesday to export their experience while keeping their roots in Taiwan.

Addressing the fifth Elite Awards of Small- and Medium-sized Enterprise Professional Managers ceremony, the vice president said that SMEs account for more than 90 percent of Taiwan's businesses and have played a key role in its successful economic development.

Lu bestowed the eight Elite Award winners at the ceremony, which was organized by the Enterprise Professional Manager Association of the Republic of China.

Facing the challenges of globalization and the so-called "magnet effect" of mainland China, SMEs should upgrade their operations and export their experience in order to expand their markets, according to Lu.

She promised to put the sharing of the development experiences of SMEs on the priority list of topics to be discussed at the first assembly of the Democratic Pacific Union slated for next year in Taipei.
