Taipei, Dec. 16 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received the delegation to the eighth Far East and South Pacific Games for the disabled Monday at the Presidential Office, in recognition of their outstanding performances.
During the reception, Chen congratulated the athletes for their achievements in the games and encouraged them to make more effort to create even better records, particularly in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games for the disabled.
The 143-member squad ranked sixth in the week-long games held in Busan, South Korea in late October, with 17 gold, 25 silver and 21 bronze medals.
The athletes took part in 11 of the 17 events at the Games, which brought together 1,700 disabled athletes from 42 countries.
