President Chen Attends the Ground-breaking Ceremony of the Global Operation Center of Walsin Technology Corporation
2002-12-18

Taipei, Dec. 18 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian reiterated Wednesday in Kaohsiung City, southern Taiwan, that his administration will honor its commitment to strive for economic recovery.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the global operation center of Walsin Technology Corporation in the Kaohsiung Export Processing Zone, Chen said that the international economy, after a two-year slowdown, is finally turning the corner.

In order to grasp this opportunity, Chen said, his administration will stimulate the economy by increasing spending on public projects, reviewing the limitations on foreign investment in a single concern and pushing for the rejuvenation of urban areas.

Noting that economic globalization has posed a challenge to his government because of stiff worldwide competition, Chen said one of his administration's priorities is to persuade multinational companies to set up their worldwide operation centers in Taiwan.

He lauded the Walsin's decision to build its worldwide operation center, as well as a research and development center, in Kaohsiung, adding that the project will cost the company NT$5 billion (US$103.89 million) and will create 1,000 jobs.
