President Ma Ying-jeou and First Lady Chow Mei-ching (周美青) attended a reception on the evening of May 19 at the Taipei Guest House arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for heads of state from diplomatic allies of the ROC and other foreign guests attending the inauguration ceremonies for the 13th-term president and vice president of the ROC. In addition to meeting with the presidents and their wives from the Republic of Paraguay, Republic of Nauru, Republic of Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Republic of Kiribati, President Ma also greeted deputy heads of state, prime ministers, and premiers from other allies and nations friendly to the ROC. Also attending the event were Vice President-elect Wu Den-yih and Mrs. Wu, Secretary-General to the President Tseng Yung-chuan (曾永權) and Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang (楊進添) and Mrs. Yang.
