Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu reiterated Thursday the government's resolve to implement comprehensive reforms and stressed that President Chen Shui-bian and the Cabinet have not deviated from this stance.
Lu made the remarks during an inspection tour of Chian Township in eastern Hualien County.
Claiming that Chen's remarks about a reform plan for the debt-burdened credit units of farmers' and fishermen's associations were seriously twisted by the media, Lu rebutted speculation that the planned reform will be halted and said that the move will be made as soon as complementary measures are worked out by relevant government agencies.
Lu gave an assurance that the government will not wipe out the credit operations of the grassroots financial institutions and that the reforms will help the agriculture and fishing sectors to fend off fierce foreign competition.
