President Chen Receives Fujitsu Group President Naoyuki Akikusa

Taipei, Dec. 3 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received Fujitsu Group President Naoyuki Akikusa Tuesday and expressed hope that the Japanese firm will help Taiwan in the field of high-tech research.

Chen said that Fujitsu has been involved in technical cooperative projects with several Taiwan enterprises and noted that its purchases from Taiwan so far this year have topped nearly NT$20 billion.

At a time when the government is making efforts to develop Taiwan into an international base of innovation and development in its new six-year economic plan, the president expressed hope that Fujitsu will render assistance in this regard.

Akikusa called on Chen at the Presidential Office, accompanied by Fujitsu Taiwan Chairman Yang Yuan-hao, Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Yi-fu and various other government officials.
