Vice President Wu's final day in Belize on Project Sustained Friendship
August 21 was the final day in Belize for Vice President Wu Den-yih, who is in the Central American nation as part of a trip dubbed Project Sustained Friendship. In the morning, he visited the Museum of Belize, which was renovated with the assistance of the ROC. The museum is housed in a refurbished British colonial prison.
After arriving at the museum, the vice president was led on a tour by a curator who explained various unearthed artifacts from Mayan culture, as well as totems, and the design of calendars. The vice president expressed his amazement at the rich and diversified culture and ecosystem of Belize, as well as its postal system, which has a very long history. Upon completing his tour, the vice president commented in a guest book that cherishing cultural heritage paves the way towards a brighter tomorrow. He expressed his hopes that the two countries will jointly work to preserve culture.
Vice President Wu and his delegation boarded their chartered aircraft at 2:00 p.m. on August 21 local time (4:00 a.m. on August 22 Taipei time) to leave Belize. The vice president, who was accompanied to the plane by ROC Ambassador to Belize David Wu (吳建國) and Belize Minister for Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington, shook hands with both gentlemen and then waved to the others in the crowd wishing him off. He expressed his gratitude to staff from both countries who helped to ensure a successful visit. The plane then departed, marking an end to Project Sustained Friendship.
