Vice President Wu returns to Taiwan, concluding Project Sustained Friendship to allies in Central America

Vice President Wu Den-yih has concluded his 12-day trip dubbed Project Sustained Friendship that took him to two allies of the ROC in Central America, with his aircraft landing back at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on the evening of August 24. The vice president delivered remarks upon his return, explaining the achievements of this trip that took him and a delegation from the ROC to the Dominican Republic and Belize.

Vice President Wu stated that on his visit to the Dominican Republic he attended the inauguration ceremonies of President Danilo Medina Sanchez and Vice President Margarita Cedeno de Fernandez, and held discussions with former President Leonel Fernandez. The vice president said that the time spent in the Dominican Republic achieved the objectives of Project Sustained Friendship, and while in that nation he also interacted with overseas compatriots. Vice President Wu stated that he was extremely pleased to see the progress and thriving state of the Dominican Republic, adding that the cooperation projects being carried out by the two countries have also won strong support among the public there.

The vice president furthermore stated that during his stay in Belize, he visited the Central Farm, which is run as a cooperation project between the two countries. In addition, during his meetings with Governor-General Sir Colville Young and Prime Minister Dean Oliver Barrow, all involved had high praise for cooperation between the two nations. He said that this displayed the strong confidence in the bilateral alliance, adding that he is confident that relations between the ROC and Belize will continue to strengthen in the future.

Vice President Wu also expressed his deepest appreciation to the United States government for the appropriate reception provided to him and his delegation during their transit stops there, along with gratitude to agencies from Taiwan and other countries for the comprehensive arrangements made on their behalf.

On hand to greet Vice President Wu on his return to Taiwan were, among others, Secretary-General to the President Tseng Yung-chuan (曾永權), Minister of Foreign Affairs Timothy Chin-tien Yang (楊進添), and Dominican Republic diplomat stationed in the ROC Samuel Castro.
