Taipei, Dec. 5 (CNA) A meeting of Pacific Rim democracies will be staged in Taiwan in March, Vice President Annette Lu announced Thursday.
In a meeting with Leslie Wright, the first vice chairwoman of the Conference of Non-governmental Organizations, Lu said the meeting of the Democratic Pacific Conference is designed to facilitate the democratization of non-democratic states in the region.
A preparatory meeting for the conference will open in Taipei next week, she added.
After the March meeting, Lu went on, Taiwan will go on to launch a program named "Discovery of Taiwan, " under which leaders and scholars of Pacific Rim states will be invited to visit Taiwan to share the island's experience in developing democracy, science and small- and medium-sized businesses.
Lu said Taiwan believes its experience in these fields will be helpful for other countries in the region.
