President Ma receives congratulations from foreign visitors attending 2013 National Day Celebration

President Ma Ying-jeou and Mrs. Ma were accompanied by Vice President Wu Den-yih and Mrs. Wu at the Presidential Office on the morning of October 10 to receive congratulations from foreign diplomats stationed in Taiwan and special visitors from throughout the world who have come to Taiwan to take part in the ROC's 2013 Double Tenth National Day Celebration.

Among the roughly 250 foreign guests in attendance at the event were Palau President Tommy Remengesau Jr., Solomon Islands Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo and Mrs. Lilo, The Gambia Vice President Isatou Njie-Saidy, Burkina Faso National Assembly President Soungalo Appolinaire Ouattara and Mrs. Ouattara, and Nicaraguan Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Santos Lopez. The activity took place at the Presidential Office at 9:30 a.m. President and Mrs. Ma and Vice President and Mrs. Wu warmly shook hands with the visitors and thanked everyone for attending the event. President Ma was also accompanied by Secretary-General to the President Timothy Chin-Tien Yang (楊進添) and Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y. L. Lin (林永樂).

In addition to President Remengesau Jr. and the other leaders or high-ranking officials from the ROC's diplomatic allies, many other foreign visitors were on hand to extend their congratulations, including US Republican National Committee Co-Chairman Sharon Day, Scottish Parliament Cross-Party Group on Taiwan Co-Convener Margaret Mitchell, and Japan-ROC Diet Members' Consultative Council Chairman Takeo Hiranuma. Foreign diplomats in attendance included Burkina Faso Ambassador to the ROC Jacques Y. Sawadogo and Mrs. Sawadogo. Others attending the event included European Economic and Trade Office Head Frederic Laplanche, American Institute in Taiwan Taipei Office Director Christopher J. Marut and Mrs. Marut, and British Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan Director Christopher Terence Wood, as well as other representatives of foreign organizations and groups stationed in Taiwan.
