2002-10-15

Taipei, Oct. 15 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu urged the public Tuesday to deal with conflict "through love and peace" and "to ensure world peace through religion."

Lu made the remarks in response to the recent terrorist attack in Bali while receiving visiting adviser to the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama, Thupten Ngodup Renpoche, along with several Indian lamas.

Lu said that because of terrorism, civilization in the 21st century faces serious challenges. She added that people should "find the sources of all problems and seek ways to resolve them."

According to Lu, the cause of terrorism is related to the looting of resources, religious clashes and racial discrimination and she expressed the hope that through religion, mankind will gain the wisdom to ensure world peace.

Thupten Ngodup Renpoche said it is egoism that has prevented world peace and he stressed that only through the reform of the people's wills can real peace world be realized.
