President Chen Accompanies Costa Rican President Abel Pacheco de la Espriella to Kaohsiung City

Kaohsiung, Oct. 7 (CNA) Visiting Costa Rican President Abel Pacheco de la Espriella and his wife, accompanied by Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian, flew into the southern Taiwan port city of Kaohsiung Monday afternoon aboard the ROC's version of Air Force One.

They were greeted at Kaohsiung International Airport by Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh and his wife, as well as Kaohsiung Deputy Mayor Hou Ho-hsiung, Deputy Secretary-General Wu Ming-yang and other city government officials.

Later, President Pacheco and his wife, also accompanied by President Chen, called at the Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau to hear a briefing by Director Huang Ching-teng and cruised Kaohsiung harbor aboard a tour boat.

President Chen hosted a state banquet Monday night at Kaohsiung Hospitality College to entertain President Pacheco and the first lady. President Chen conferred an order on President Pacheco during the state banquet.

President Pacheco and his wife arrived in Taipei Sunday for a six-day official visit. The main purpose of Pacheco's Taipei visit is to attend the ROC Double Ten National Day celebrations Oct. 10.

President Chen presided over a military honor guard Monday morning to welcome President Pacheco to the ROC.
