President Chen Receives Members of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church Choir of New York
2002-10-09

Taipei, Oct. 9 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received members of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church Choir of New York at the Presidential Office Wednesday, praising them for their voluntary efforts in helping the needy.

At the invitation of the Chinese Christian Evangelistic Association, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church Choir will stage two fund-raising concerts in Taiwan for the Chinese Christian Relief Association. The money will be used to establish "1919 Service Centers"-- emergency relief units, across the island.

President Chen told choir members that he believes that the concept of the church is one that creates unlimited possibilities under imposible conditions. "This is similar to what the government and people of Taiwan have long strived for," he added.

Chen thanked them for coming to Taiwan not only to bless the people of the island but to help the needy with their beautiful songs. He also said he hoped that their tour of Taiwan was a great success.

The New York church choir was accompanied by Shia Chung-chien, secretary-general of the Chinese Christian Evangelistic Association, in the meeting with President Chen.
