Vice President Lu Meets with Professor Richard C. Kagan

Taipei, Aug. 2 (CNA) ROC Vice President Annette Lu met with visiting U.S. human rights activist Richard C. Kagan, a professor at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Lu thanked Kagan for his long-standing concerns about and efforts to improve Taiwan's human rights record.

Human rights are one of the cornerstones on which the new Taiwan government is build, and the government is set to establish a national human rights committee as well as a national human rights hall to underline the emphasis it puts on the matter, Lu said.

Kagan is on a fact-finding trip to Taiwan as the leader of a group of students from Hamline University to learn the progress the island has made in terms of human rights' protection.
