President Chen Addresses the Opening of the Medical Students' Conference Organized by the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations
Taipei, July 26 (CNA) ROC President Chen Shui-bian Friday urged the international medical community to support Taiwan's bid to join the World Health Organization (WHO).

He made the appeal while addressing the opening of a 10-day medical students' conference organized by the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations.

Chen said Taiwan has made progress in medical care over the past decades and earnestly hopes to make contributions to the world in the field.

He urged the participants of the conference to support Taiwan's efforts. Over the past few years, Taiwan's bid to become a WHO observer has been thwarted by Beijing.

The conference is attended by some 500 medical students and international medical group representatives from 68 countries and areas. The main theme is "The New Era of Global Medical Care."
