Taipei, July 4 (CNA) Republic of China Vice President Annette Lu was appointed Thursday as a member of the Central American Technology University's Advisory Committee on academic affairs.
Visiting Honduran Vice Minister of Finances and Budget William Chong Wong, who also serves as CATU vice president, delivered the letter of appointment to Lu while meeting with her at the Presidential Office. Also present at the meeting were a group of CATU students attending an academic workshop in Taipei.
Lu, who obtained an honorary doctorate from CATU when she visited Honduras one-and-a-half years ago, accepted the appointment with great pleasure and reiterated her heartfelt gratitude to CATU for having conferred the honorary doctorate. She also told her guests that she was deeply impressed by the situation in Honduras.
She also expressed her concern about the study conditions for CATU students who have been attending an academic workshop in Taiwan since June 16.
Noting that there are 150 universities and colleges in Taiwan, Lu suggested that the CATU authorities send their students to different schools, especially those in southern Taiwan, where she said local customs and practices are "similar to those in Honduras."
In addition, she also proposed that CATU seek cooperation with Taiwan manufacturers with operations in the United States to offer training opportunities to Honduran students.
