President Tsai meets delegation from U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission
On the morning of May 17, President Tsai Ing-wen met with a delegation from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC), a body established by the US Congress, and welcomed the group on its return to Taiwan.
Noting that she had met with a USCC delegation in June of last year, the president said she was very happy to see everyone again as she was approaching the first anniversary of her presidency.
During the meeting, the visitors engaged in a wide-ranging exchange of views with the president on such topics as cross-strait relations, the New Southbound Policy, mainland China's Belt and Road Initiative, and the development of high-tech industries and energy resources.
President Tsai expressed hope that the US Congress and administration will support arms sales to Taiwan, and that the US will establish a more liberalized trade partnership with Taiwan.
Included in the delegation were USCC Chairman Carolyn Bartholomew, Vice Chairman Dennis Shea, and commission members Daniel Slane, Jonathan Stivers, Katherine Tobin, and Larry Wortzel, Supervisory Senior Policy Analyst for Security and Foreign Affairs Caitlin Campbell, Supervisory Senior Policy Analyst for Economics and Trade Nargiza Salidjanova, and Policy Analyst for Security and Foreign Affairs Michael Pilger.
