Taipei, June 8 (CNA) Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian will visit four African countries from June 28.
The 12-day trip will bring Chen to Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, Malawi and Swaziland. It will be Chen's second trip to Taiwan's diplomatic allies in Africa since he assumed the presidency in May 2000.
During the trip, the president will hold talks with his counterparts to exchange views on international and regional situations and on matters of mutual concern. He will also inspect the results of Taiwan's cooperation with these countries in the fields of infrastructure, agricultural, educational and medical developments, and will also meet with representatives from the Chinese communities and the ROC agricultural technical teams.
Chen will be accompanied on the trip by Minister of Foreign Affairs Eugene Chien, Minister of Economic Affairs Lin Yi-fu, Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission Chairwoman Chang Fu-mei, Council of Agriculture Chairman Fan Chen-tsung, Department of Health Minister Lee Ming-liang and representatives from the Legislative Yuan and the business community.
Liberian President Charles Taylor has asked Chen to reschedule his plan to visit his country because of the latest political development there.
