Presidential Office statement regarding Japan's House of Representative election results

President Tsai Ing-wen sent congratulations to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on the evening of October 22 after the Abe-led Liberal Democratic Party scored a victory in Japan's House of Representatives election. The president's message was relayed from Taiwan-Japan Relations Association President Chiou I-jen (邱義仁) to the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Chief Representative Mikio Numata.

President Tsai remarked that geographically, Japan and Taiwan are neighbors, with frequent people-to-people interactions and a close relationship that fosters meaningful cooperation and exchanges. The president thanked Prime Minister Abe for his past support for Taiwan-Japan cooperation, and Japan's long-standing support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations and activities. She went on to say that under Prime Minister Abe's leadership, she hopes that bilateral relations will continue and deepen to further the wellbeing of people in both countries, and maintain regional prosperity and stability.
