President Tsai bids farewell to Hubert Emmanuel, outgoing Saint Lucia Ambassador to the ROC
On the morning of March 14, President Tsai Ing-wen met with Saint Lucia Ambassador to the ROC Hubert Emmanuel. The president thanked the ambassador for his outstanding contributions to enhancing bilateral diplomatic ties, and also emphasized that Taiwan will act in the spirit of mutual assistance for mutual benefits to continue promoting cooperative projects that are conducive to the well-being of people in both Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
In remarks, President Tsai said that Taiwan was sad to see Ambassador Emmanuel go. Thanks to his efforts, she said, the friendship between Taiwan and Saint Lucia has continued to grow, and the relationship is certain to endure despite his departure. The president then expressed her deep gratitude to the ambassador on behalf of the people of Taiwan.
President Tsai pointed out that since taking up his post in Taiwan, Ambassador Emmanuel has used his vast experience and extensive background in the public and private sectors to promote cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and Saint Lucia. During his tenure, he arranged for visits to Taiwan by Saint Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and his wife, Saint Lucia Senate President Andy Daniel, former Saint Lucia House of Assembly Speaker Leonne Theodore-John, and other high-level officials. He has also actively promoted bilateral economic and trade ties, and made a tremendous contribution to substantive cooperation and the friendship between the two countries.
The president stated that over the past few years, Taiwan and Saint Lucia have closely cooperated in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, ICT, healthcare and medical services, and education. These efforts are gradually showing results, and have received widespread recognition, she added.
In closing, President Tsai asked Ambassador Emmanuel to convey greetings from the people of Taiwan to Governor-General Emmanuel Neville Cenac and Prime Minister Chastanet. The president also gave her assurance that the Taiwan government values its diplomatic friendship with Saint Lucia. In the future, she said, Taiwan will act in the spirit of mutual assistance for mutual benefits, and use the foundation that Ambassador Emmanuel has built, to continue promoting cooperative projects that are conducive to the well-being of people in both Taiwan and Saint Lucia.
