Presidential Office thanks 172 members of US House for urging World Health Assembly to invite Taiwan

The Office of the President expressed gratitude on May 17 to the 172 members of the United States House of Representatives, led by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce and Ranking Democrat Eliot Engel, who signed a letter addressed to World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urging the WHO to invite Taiwan to participate in this year's World Health Assembly (WHA).

Presidential Office Spokesperson Huang Chung-yen (黃重諺) stated that pressure from the Beijing authorities continues unabated, so many challenges remain in Taiwan's quest to participate in the WHA. Nevertheless, the US government, Congress, and public firmly support Taiwan's right to participate in WHO activities, and continue to rally like-minded countries to speak up on Taiwan's behalf. The government and people of Taiwan are sincerely grateful to the more than 100 members of the US House who, under the leadership of House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, signed the letter to the director-general of the WHO expressing strong support for the right of the Taiwanese people to safeguard their health and participate in international affairs.
