Taipei, May 22 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received a visiting German choir Wednesday and said that the Windsbacher Knabenchor's arrival is an overture for cultural exchanges between the youth of both nations.
After listening to a recital by the choir at the Presidential Office, Chen also expressed his appreciation for those who have "contributed love and passion" to Taiwanese society since his inauguration two years ago. Founded in 1946, Windsbacher Knabenchor has been renowned for more than 50 years and is regarded by many critics and fans as one of the greatest interpreters of Bach's music.
At the invitation of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, Windsbacher Knabenchor arrived in Taiwan on May 17.
In celebration of the 130th anniversary of Canadian Doctor George Mackay's missionary work in Taiwan, Windsbacher Knabenchor will also help raise funds for various children's charities.
