Taiwan delegation arrives in Paraguay for state visit

Led by President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's state visit delegation touched down at Paraguay's Silvio Pettirossi International Airport in Asuncion on the morning of Tuesday, August 14 local time (evening of August 14 Taipei time).

After the delegation's chartered plane came to a halt, Taiwan's ambassador to Paraguay Diego L. Chou (周麟) and Paraguayan Director General of Protocol Ercilia Giménez boarded the plane to welcome the president. After the president disembarked, and accompanied by National Security Council Secretary-General David T. Lee (李大維) and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), the president travelled by limousine to a red-carpet area fronting the state protocol lounge for a welcome ceremony. She was welcomed by Paraguayan Minister of Foreign Affairs Eladio Loizaga.

Accompanied by Minister Loizaga, President Tsai made her way over the red carpet and received a military honor guard salute. After the playing of the two countries' national anthems, Paraguayan children presented the president with flowers. She then shook hands and greeted embassy personnel and their families, and representatives from the Taiwan expatriates community, in a receiving line. After the airport welcome ceremony, President Tsai proceeded to her hotel.
