President Tsai attends activities following Paraguayan President Abdo's inauguration
After attending the inauguration of Paraguay's President Mario Abdo Benítez on the morning of August 15 local time (evening of August 15 Taipei time), President Tsai Ing-wen took part in post-inauguration activities including a prayer ceremony, the delivery of congratulatory messages from the heads of each national delegation to President and First Lady Abdo, and a luncheon hosted by the president and first lady.
Following the inaugural ceremony, President Tsai and the other heads and representatives of state proceeded to the Asunción Cathedral to take part in a religious ceremony to pray for blessings. After remarks by Archbishop of Asunción Edmundo Valenzuela Mellid, a hymn was played, and a prayer for Paraguay was offered in a solemn ceremony. President Abdo then exchanged greetings with each of the assembled heads and representatives of state.
After the prayer session, the heads and representatives of state returned to the Paraguayan presidential palace, where a master of ceremonies read out their names as they personally delivered congratulations to President and First Lady Abdo, including President Tsai.
Afterward, President Tsai attended a luncheon hosted by the president and first lady where she had lively conversations with members from other national delegations, and many leading Paraguayan political figures sought out President Tsai to give their regards and take photos with her.
