Presidential Office expresses thanks for White House statement supporting Taiwan
2018-08-24

The White House released a statement earlier today saying that El Salvador's establishment of diplomatic ties with China while severing ties with Taiwan has undermined the economic health and security of the Americas, and the United States vigorously opposes acts by China that destabilize cross-strait relations and interfere with Western-hemisphere political affairs. Presidential Office Spokesperson Huang Chung-yen (黃重諺) expressed thanks to the US government, including the White House, and US congressional bodies for voicing strong support of Taiwan on numerous occasions.

Spokesperson Huang stated that as President Tsai Ing-wen has said: We will defend our sovereignty and dignity, strengthen our self-defense capabilities, and protect our free and democratic way of life. For the people of Taiwan, this is the bottom line, and a self-evident truth that cannot be challenged. We will continue to be a force for regional stability and good, and will never give up our commitment to doing good, democracy, and freedom due to China's intimidation.
