President Tsai receives congratulations from foreign visitors attending 2018 National Day Celebration

On the morning of October 10 at the Presidential Office Building, President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Chen Chien-jen received congratulations from foreign diplomats stationed in Taiwan and special visitors from around the world who came to take part in the ROC's 2018 Double Tenth National Day Celebration.

Among the roughly 180 foreign guests in attendance at the event were: Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez and Mrs. Abdo, Saint Christopher and Nevis Governor General Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton, Saint Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, Paraguayan Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Castiglioni and Mrs. Castiglioni, former South African President Frederik Willem de Klerk and Mrs. Klerk. The distinguished guests proceeded to the Presidential Office Building at 9:30 a.m. to extend their congratulations. President Tsai and Vice President Chen warmly shook hands with the visitors and thanked everyone for attending. President Tsai was also accompanied by Secretary-General to the President Chen Chu (陳菊) and Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮).

In addition to Paraguayan President Benítez and the leaders of delegations from the ROC's other diplomatic allies, many other foreign visitors were on hand to extend their congratulations, including: Japan celebration delegation chief Keiji Furuya, Member of Japan's House of Representatives; Scottish Labour Party-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group Co-Chair Rhoda Grant, US Montana State Senate President Scott Sales, US Montana House of Representatives Speaker Austin Knudsen; Nicaragua Ambassador to the ROC William M. Tapia and other members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Taiwan; Head of the European Economic and Trade Office Madeleine Majorenko, American Institute in Taiwan Taipei Office Director William Brent Christensen and Mrs. Christensen, British Office Taipei Representative Catherine Elizabeth Nettleton, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Taipei Office Chief Representative Mikio Numata, Korean Mission in Taipei Representative Chang-Soo Yang, and other representatives of foreign organizations and international bodies stationed in Taiwan.
