Taipei, May 8 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received 10 outstanding mothers of handicapped children Wednesday and praised them for their selfless sacrifices for their children.
Chen said that mothers play a very important role in families as they are the "spiritual support" of the families. He added that mothers with mentally or physically handicapped children have to bear much more hardships than other mothers. He said that the government will do whatever it can to help the families with handicapped children.
The outstanding mothers thanked Chen for his concern and expressed hope that the government will take further steps to help handicapped children.
