President Tsai Ing-wen attended the Super TaiRa Forum on the morning of March 13. She stated that with cooperation between the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) and industry under the leadership of the Super TaiRa Alliance, Taiwan's wireless communications team will continue to grow and evolve, leading to world-class achievements.
In remarks, President Tsai stated that she was delighted to participate in this international forum at NCSIST, sponsored by the Super TaiRa Alliance, which was convened by Acer Group Chairman Emeritus Stan Shih (施振榮), with NCSIST President Gao Chung-hsing (杲中興) as its first chairman. She said that the Super TaiRa Alliance is a formal collaboration between Taiwan industry and NCSIST, working together to compete in the global ICT arena, especially in the Internet of Things (IoT).
The president mentioned that the star of the forum, Super TaiRa, is a cutting-edge technology jointly developed by NCSIST and the Acer Group. This wireless transmission technology has exceptional anti-jamming and cybersecurity capabilities. This collaboration also proves that the technical research Taiwan has accumulated over the past few decades can lead to world-class achievements.
President Tsai said she believes that the Super TaiRa Alliance can lead Taiwan's wireless transmission team to great accomplishments on the global stage, and continue to break new ground in Industry 4.0, IoT, smart cities, and civilian radar network applications. Even more important, we can then take the next step to become a major force in the global IoT wireless transmission market, which is projected to be worth up to USD$600 billion.
Trademark registration for Super TaiRa, the president further explained, is already underway in several dozen countries. This world-class technology, independently developed in Taiwan, can significantly increase Taiwan's influence in the global IoT sector, and make Taiwan irreplaceable in the global high-tech industry supply chain.
President Tsai emphasized again that national defense industries must do more than just strengthen our military capabilities, and that they also need to become a major driver of economic development. That is why defense industries were designated as a key strategic industrial sector under our 5+2 industrial innovation program. Through our industrial cooperation model, which transfers military technology for civil use—and vice versa—the government has created an ideal development environment for our defense industries.
Our current cooperative model is even more innovative, the president noted, with the military and private sector collaborating and sharing their expertise. From the R&D stage through production and marketing, NCSIST, Acer, and many private-sector vendors are all cooperating. "So today, your achievement provides a model for the future development of our defense industries," said President Tsai.
In closing, the president stated she believes that with cooperation between NCSIST and industry and given Super TaiRa's success, Taiwan's wireless communications team will surely continue to grow and evolve. She also specially thanked all the senior managers from international firms for attending the forum to compare notes and discuss this technology with us. The president then asked participants to continue to support Super TaiRa, stay bullish on Taiwan, and invest in Taiwan.
Following her remarks, President Tsai witnessed the signing of the Super TaiRa letter of intent, symbolizing ICT's entrance into a new era, before watching a live display of the technology.
Attendees included National Security Council Secretary-General David T. Lee (李大維), Minister of National Defense Yen Teh-fa (嚴德發), and Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan (鄭文燦).
