Taipei, April 30 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu reiterated Tuesday the Republic of China's determination to join international organizations, saying that the nation will fight tenaciously to this end.
Lu made the remarks while receiving visiting Dutch parliamentarian Hans van Baalen at the Presidential Office.
Noting that Taiwan's current goal is to obtain membership of the World Health Organization, Lu said: "Taiwan has patience and will not suspend its efforts without achieving the goal."
Lu asked Van Baalen, who is also the vice chairman of Liberal International--a London-based federation of liberal political parties around the world--to use his influence in international diplomatic circles to help Taiwan obtain seats in international organizations.
The vice president also told her guest that she has initiated the formation of the "Democratic Pacific Alliance" by democracy- and peace-loving countries of the Pacific rim.
Taiwan has played an important role in the democratization of Asia, Lu went on, adding that Taiwan can also play a positive role in this alliance.
Van Baalen, who arrived Monday for a four-day visit, was accompanied at the meeting by Netherlands Trade and Investment Office Representative S.K. Schuur and ROC Vice Foreign Minister Lan Chih-min.
